Color a Mosaic

I found a few websites that have free printables, and one was a Color by Number 

It resembled a mosaic (for the sake of the theme) so I printed ones that my girls would like and let them at it.

 Some were easier than others. :)

One followed the directions...

One did her own thing...

Both look great on the fridge. :)

Printable Christmas Tags!

My kids love to color, so the gifts that they exchange for each other gets "original" coloring artwork with the package!  Sure it gets tossed with the wrap, but it is a perfect quiet activity while you are counting down the days till present time! :)

Chickens and Chick-Hens

Sorry about the absence, my best friends father died and we have been hosts to their family for the entire week!

Not to mention my baby turned one! CRAZY! I have a 3 year old, a 2 year old and now a 1 year old.  I am surrounded by Toddlers and I wouldn't want it any other way! :)

I will be posting every day because we need to catch up!

Don't forget the Pigs from Pink Week, they are part of the farm week.

So now on to the Chickens.

We read The Little Red Hen and then colored the hens/chick-hens. LOL

We identified parts of a chicken, and then cut out some hay.

Then glued our tie-dye chickens...

I lost the final picture it is on the other computer or my husbands laptop, because it certainly isn't on this laptop.  I will find it but this is the preliminary look.  It says something like "These two chickens say bock bock, they lay their eggs in the hay." We added eggs to the picture as well.  Picture it in your minds. :)

Harold and the Purple Crayon

I have a little obsession with this book.  In fact I own the entire series by Crockett Johnson.  I wrote 2 papers on this book in College.  When we were cleaning out the basement this weekend my kids wanted me to stop what I was doing and read them all.

Of course I did.

This is what inspired todays art project.  You need a purple crayon and an imagination for this one.

My kids started drawing and then I started to trace their pictures darker so we could paint on them, and then the kids told me that they wanted me to draw certain things on their pages, so I did.  My son wanted a windstorm by a mountain with trees.

My daughter wanted a castle next to a fluffy tree. My 8 month old wanted to eat the crayons.

Then we water colored over them, and when my husband came home they bombarded him with kisses and pictures for his office. :)

Letter R - R is for Rainbow...texture rainbows!

This picture is having an issue Rotating but here is our 15 inch R.

Something fun that they can do all by them self!  I found 7 little plates and then put every color of the rainbow on each individual plate.

Then we folded the papers into fans and then laid them flat.

Then we read:

Now it was time to assemble.

Everyone started with a different color so it worked out because no one had to wait on anyone else!

Red was a marker.

Orange was torn paper.

Yellow was tissue paper.

Green was a crayon.

Blue was a marker.

Purple was rectangles.

Resist Leaf Rubbings

This is another Fall Activity, with a twist.

Collect some leaves.
Tear off the paper of a crayon.
Stick the leaves under the paper.
Rub with the side of the crayon until the impression of the leaf appears.
Watercolor over the entire paper so the crayon is above the paint.
Like this. Then let dry. Let the kids feel the difference of crayon to paint. It is so neat!

Dinosaur Rubbing Plates

Project #2 in Dino Week

Learning about Dinosaurs can be so much fun. When we went to the Discovery Science Museum in Fort Collins, CO last week they had these...

I liked them a lot and my kids did too. I found this everything dinosaur website and ordered these RUBBING PLATES. We are waiting for them in the mail but I know my kids will enjoy doing these later. So I am adding this to my dinosaur unit!

What we will do is rub all the dinos out and then look up their stats online and make a chart to put meat eaters in one pile and veggie eaters in another.

Giant Coloring Book

Since we all have been going a little stir crazy because we have been trapped in the house (My boy broke his fever Monday night, but I wanted to be safe) Our Art Tuesday was something simple. Coloring. I bought this GIANT book during Christmas time. My sister and I really enjoyed it, probably more than they did but it was something different. I also took us to the gas station and let my boy pick out a treat. He picked Necco wafers. I have NEVER tried them before! I let him pay and he was so excited. We colored about 45 minutes.

Afterwards he said to me, coloring in the lines is not very fun, can I have an empty piece of paper? So he continued coloring for another 15 minutes. My daughter was mad I wouldn't let her color my walls. Its tough being a toddler I guess. :)

Flat Maracas

Today we made Flat Maracas, next week we will make round ones.

Before we could start the kids wanted a snack. I know the picture is crooked but my daughter looks like a doll sitting in that chair!

Here is what you need:
(the scent crayons aren't necessary but I had them and my boy wanted to use the stinky crayons)

First color the plates
(I used small plates because I have kids with little hands, but you could use big ones.)

She thought it was hilarious to sit with her brother.

Then you staple all around the edges, leaving a 2 inch hole at the top. Then you fill with rice.
(You don't have to use rice, dry popcorn-unpopped, salt, beans...anything will work)

My son was very into this, look how serious he is!
She opted to use her hands
The last thing you do is staple the last 2 inches of the plate and shake away!
(staples work much better than glue and you don't have to worry about dry time)
He was double checking my stapling job.
They were quite easy to make and will last a very long time. We put them in our music box and will use them for Jack's Big Music Show tonight. We are doing a music themed Family Home Evening.

(these pictures were all taken in My Daughter's room, yes those diamonds are hand painted. My husband is great at full filling my visions. It looks awesome trust me!)
