Fun Snack : Mosaics 2

So, my sister and I constantly battle over which is better. Goldfish (fishies) or Cheez-Its.

I love Cheeze-Its. Always have. In fact, there isn't a grocery list I have made that hasn't had them on there.
Well, they are $1.00 a box last week and I bought 20 of them.

Yes, 20 of them. It is true, I am obsessed.

For this activity, you only need two or three varieties.
I grabbed some scrap paper, drew a rectangle and let the kids make their own creations in the box.

The kids love to eat art.

This is the perfect activity when you need to be on the phone, because there was literally NO talking.
They were so focused on this project.

And, everyone can do it. Except for him. He would try and eat the paper. :)

Perfect activity for when you are watching a friends kid, or when you have time to kill.
Or in my case, when it is snowing and you just don't want to leave.
Sorry Utah friends. :/

Rectangle Lunch

For those lucky enough to know me in real life...(haha j/k) you know that I am now on bed rest. The first time I have ever had issues with a pregnancy in my life and I am finding it VERY difficult to be the best mom I can be...

but my son (my so helpful and smart son), insisted on making lunch for his sissies.
So, here is what he came up with...

Cheese Sticks (string cheese) Pretzel Sticks and Ants on a log...he did pretty a pretty good job too...all 5 food groups are on the plate!

The kids LOOOOOOVED their non-sandwich lunch.  Just something different.

Teaching Shapes to Toddlers - 6

Musical Shape Freeze Dance

Any excuse to play music really loud and shake your body is a plus in my book.

I had shapes all over the ground and then played this CD that I got from the Library.
Loud then Stop and they had to land on a shape. Then I drew from a bag the winning shape and that kid got a Gummy Bear. We rotated through a few times and then we took the shapes away and just let them dance and be crazy.
Everyone loved this game. Especially the two girls above! :)

Teaching Shapes to Toddlers - 4

Shape Scapes!

I started by cutting several sizes of the different shapes I was doing and then let them glue a city or an ocean.
Then they went at it, giggling at the shapes they had picked.

Here they are all finished - minus 2 that were too wet to hang.
I added faces and a tag with name, date, title of project.

Cute and colorful! :)
If you wanted to make this more advanced you could trace shapes and have them cut them out themselves.

Teaching Shapes to Toddlers - 3

Number Bingo!

I found this AWESOME WEBSITE and plan on using it more and more!  I love Math, I love when stuff is ready to go like this and I LOVE that they offer customizing!

So what I did was clicked on Bingo Sheets 3x3 and printed them. What is great is if you hit the back button on your browser and click MAKE WORKSHEET it will automatically make a new one. So I did this 10 times so I had 10 different Bingo Boards.

Then I printed 2 more and cut them out as markers.  I opted to do black and white so I could color them myself. I love to color. :)

Then I laminated them and the markers and it was time to play...
I picked the marker, placed it on the table and they marked their spots with a cheerio.
We kept going to get 3 in a row!
The kids loved it. The almost 2 year old sorta understood the concept but cheerio's were just too enticing.
We played a few rounds so everyone got a turn and then read a few more books on the Shapes of the Week.

Teaching Shapes to Toddlers - 1

Tot School Shape Activity #1

Most of these kids know their shapes so why not reinforce it with 2 weeks of focus just to make sure! :)

I had Square, Rectangle, Oval, Circle and Diamond and Triangle.

Here is the first thing we did.

Rectangle Robots!

I cut out several different sizes and types of Rectangles.  Then I glued the body on a paper and let them decide how their robot would look.

It was interesting to watch each kid decide on each individual piece.
They all really liked this project.

My favorite thing about art projects is no matter what it is - using the same supplies - everyone comes up with something totally different.
Each kid got to pick an eye or two from the eye box and then I added a smile and a tag of what it was and the date.  They look adorable!

My first Uno

I bought this a while ago and have been dying to break it open for a while!

So this is our RECTANGLE for the week! :)
It says for 3 and up, but my 2 year old had no problem playing this game.
It was fun and at Target it was only $2.50.
It was also nice to break up the projects with a game.  We played several rounds.

Rectangle Shape Collage

I cut out several different shapes. Everyone decided Rectangle was their favorite so we made rectangles this time.

Here is what you need. Shapes, Glue and Paper.
I made a rectangle out of glue and they stuck the shapes on.
Here is the finished product.
They were easy and cute and we are really working on knowing the shapes. L, age 3 knows them all so he thinks he is helping me teach them to B age 22 months and K 18 months. Whatever works right?
