Date Night : Picnic Dinner at the Lake

My kids always get jealous when we have our date nights.
They love their sitter, but love to go out too!

Each kid in our house gets one night a month with Daddy to go somewhere special.
The next month it is a night with Mommy.

We do silly things like go out for an ice cream cone, or ride bikes, or play a game.
This was one of our family resolutions to strengthen our relationships with each other.
So far it has been EXCELLENT!

Tonight's Family Fun Activity was a Family Date!

We packed sandwiches and went to the lake.

It was so nice to be "unplugged."
We enjoyed listening to the sounds of the outdoors.
Then my husband took the kids to the other side of the lake to teach them how to skip rocks.

Quiet, Fun, Peaceful.
Just what the family needed.

Healthy Kids Activities - Teeth #1

This month is Healthy Kids Month in my house, so I thought I would post everything I am doing so you can do it too!  If you have any ideas you would like to share please email me at valeriewitte@yahoo.com and I will try and post those too.

This week is Teeth Week.

My kids love to brush, do yours?  I let them brush themselves in the morning while I sing the ABC's AND Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.  At night me or my husband brush their teeth while we sing 2 Primary Songs of their choice. I have to say that our method works because every time we go to the dentist (feb and august) our kids get great reports and never have cavities (knock on wood)

Today to kick start our Teeth Week we read some books from the Library.  There isn't much out there but
ABC Dentist is a good one because it goes through the different parts of the teeth and the different parts of going to the Dentist.  The kids liked this because they already knew most of the words! I also really liked All About Teeth and Do I have to Go to the Dentist?
Then I printed these coloring pages from the internet...
This was just an introduction, but we worked on reading and coloring for a full hour!

Hot and Cold

To close out Winter Week I made up a game.  My son is obsessed with all things fireman and so we decided to play a safety game.

I printed out some signs, that said hot and cold...like so....

I made 8 of each kind just on a word document.  Then we talked about things that are safe and things that are not, then it was time to run through the house and label things that were hot and cold....
Hats are obviously optional! :)

After this we made a chart and tasted chocolate milk and hot chocolate...my daughter didn't like either of them but it was another thing they had to try before they could label it.

Safety is very important, this could be a FHE Lesson if you wanted to do this as an activity.
Try it!
