Summer Boredom Buster Kids - Games!

In the afternoon we also played Duck, Duck, Goose.

Believe it or not, my younger kids have never played this game (with me)

They thoroughly enjoyed this game, and it led to several other 

"school yard games"

We played "Mother May I" and "Red Light, Green Light"

I think the part that they enjoyed most, was me playing along.

Sometimes we forget to stop and play with our kids.

Sensory : Seeing with our Ears

Have you ever taken your kids on a blindfolded walk?

You should try it!

The sights, sounds, and smells, are such an experience for those little minds.

I took my kids to the local nature reserve.

The rule was one blindfolded person, and one guide.

The 3 year old didn't like this. But, she is 3 and 3 year olds don't like anything.

The other kids loved it!

We stopped, listened and observed.

It was cold, but so peaceful and quiet.

When we got home, we took notes of our observations and drew pictures of what we 

heard but couldn't see.

I love being outside, even if it is fall/winter.

There are less people out, and the kids have more room to enjoy.

You should try it!

Date Night : Picnic Dinner at the Lake

My kids always get jealous when we have our date nights. 

They love their sitter, but love to go out too!

Each kid in our house gets one night a month with Daddy to go somewhere special.

The next month it is a night with Mommy.

We do silly things like go out for an ice cream cone, or ride bikes, or play a game.

This was one of our family resolutions to strengthen our relationships with each other.

So far it has been EXCELLENT!

Tonight's Family Fun Activity was a Family Date!

We packed sandwiches and went to the lake.

It was so nice to be "unplugged."

We enjoyed listening to the sounds of the outdoors.

 Then my husband took the kids to the other side of the lake to teach them how to skip rocks.

Quiet, Fun, Peaceful.

Just what the family needed.

Noodle Racing!

I saw this in Family Fun and thought we would give it a try.  Except instead of racing marbles we raced - Whoppers. I love food and I am terrified that someone will swallow one, or forget to put them away and I will slip on one so we raced Whoppers and then ate them. There is no way they would forget to eat them or leave them around! Haha.

First you cut a pool noodle. I did this with a bread slicer - gasp - I know, I know.

Then you use toothpicks to stick them together.

Then you get a box to "catch" the precious Whopper Candies. And then races are go for launch.

You can make checkered flags and other decorations etc. We didn't but you totally could. 

Instead we tried different inclines.

After that we tried to see if they would race at a diagonal, or straight. We tried all sorts of things which just meant MORE Whoppers! It was very scientific! Haha.

Try it! Noodles are cheap and Whoppers are too. Its hours of fun and tasty too!

3D Chalk!

We used these awhile ago and they are still a summer staple around here...

The kids got this for Christmas, and we love them.

 There are different things you can do with them. There is an info packet inside like how to layer colors etc..

 Then you put the glasses on!

 I tried it and it really WORKS!

They are hard to break since they are big which is nice.  Everyone asks to pull them out and play with them!

Love this for the summer!

Leaf Art

Easy and Fun Leaf Activity for Toddlers.

Go outside and collect some leaves.

Here in Colorado it has been beautiful and Sunny (11-9-10)

 Once you have collected the leaves, but them in a ziploc bag.

 Smash them and while the kids get their aggression out draw a leaf on each paper.

 The leaves I chose were ones similar to the ones that they had collected.

 Then trace the leaf with glue.

 Take the leaf bits and put them on the glue.

Ta-Da! Something different than your average collection of leaves. :)

Secondary Colors - Toddler Activity #2

We went outside for this game.  I had bought these color paddles a while ago when I worked for the State and have kept them because there are so many uses for them!

If you want some of your own...Lakeshore has some or you could just wait until next week for our Lakeshore GIVEAWAY!!!  Its totally up to you!
So this is what they look like...

I used sidewalk chalk to color different stations.  Orange, Purple and Green.

Then the kids had to find which combinations made the right color.

Orange....CHECK!

 Purple...CHECK!

 Okay now Green...

CHECK!

I let them walk around outside and look through the plates to see the world with the different color perspectives.  It was a fun and simple activity and we can do it again and again!

Earth Day Activity #4 - Nature Collecting

So since today is Earth day we gathered and collected data to observe and classify at home.  We also talked about what those words meant, it was a science day! :")

They were allowed to collect 10 things in their basket.

L spotted these,she wanted 10 but I convinced her that there was more out there!

The girls had fun running and laughing.

We talked about the changing of the colors and leaves growing too.

Then we pulled out the magnifying glass and took a look.

A really good look. And then made a chart of what was living and not living, and what was a plant and what was not.  It was really fun to see them determine what was what.

I love these magnifying glasses.

Then when they were done "learning" they got to build structures with their collected stuff.

Go on go hunt, go hug a tree and tell me all about it!

Pop and Catch

This week is cheap and fun weird toy week.  Yup you read right.  We are going to start with...

The Pop and Catch...a $2.50 toy found in the easter section at Walmart.

You shoot the trigger and the ball comes out.

Let's do it!

This is what we do when it was 65 all week and then we get hit with 9 inches of snow the next day.  Gottta love Colorado!
