Ladybug Life Cycle

I went to THIS WEBSTITE to teach the kids about Ladybug anatomy.

It is very kid friendly.

Then we went on to discuss the life cycle of the Ladybug.

Printed THIS PAGE OUT , colored it and then made a real model of it with rocks!

 We painted Ladybug rocks.

We cut this out then glued it in the right order.  Then we matched up the left over cards to our diagram.

The girls suddenly figured it all out, since we grew pumpkins in our yard this year and they remembered seeing each step.

Earth Day Activity #1 - Planting Flowers

I am totally getting this idea from my friend CC who started me thinking about Earth Week...Every idea this week will be for Earth Week.

Today we planted flowers.

The kids got to pick what they wanted to plant.

My son made sure he had something masculine, no pink for him!

These shovels were $1 at Target

My husband took charge and explained to them why we mix up the dirt, why we add food to the dirt and why we dig holes.

The kids loved learning about this.

They also enjoyed getting dirty.

They also planted tomatoes, and talked about how some of the food we eat comes from the ground.

Watering can $1 at Target

They talked about root systems, and how we need to be gentle with the flowers and plants.

my baby just watched.  Rake $1 at Target.

The plants were all $2.50 at the local nursery so total monies for the day was $10!

Go play in the dirt today! 

Doily Flowers

This was a perfect little activity for my 20 month old who was feeling a little sad when her brother left for a play date. What you need...

Doily's we did round but they come in many shapes and are only 1.79 at Michael's. Paint, Paint Brushes, and Tape.

First you tape the doily in the spots you want them and then dab with paint. You could also use paint daubers, but I find them to be too watery for this particular project.

Then you let them sit for 10 minutes so they semi-dry. But we painted the other one so we could peel faster.

Then you peel off the doily.

We then added stems, and centers.

Then we let it dry and put it on our art wall. So CUTE!

My son was very upset he couldn't do it, he thought they we very nice and wanted to make one for his Grandma...I told him he could for Mother's day.

Feet Flowers

After nap we rode our bikes and played outside for about an hour and a half and then came inside to finish this week's Art Project.

Last night we painted wee one's pretty feet and turned them into something...

Then this afternoon we practiced our cutting skills. I like to draw lines on construction paper or old bills and let the kids practice their cutting. It takes them a really long time and they are slowly getting better at cutting in the lines! This is especially great for times when I need them to leave me alone so I can make dinner. Well dinners that require a lot of preparation! :)

Then after the millions of little scraps of paper were cleaned up the kids got to glue them into a collage. This project is simple and fun. With some of the scraps I had my daughter finish our actual project for this Tuesday's Art Project.

Which is...

Feet Flowers! You can also trace their feet and make a bunch of creations, but since wee one is quiet and doesn't make the type of fuss a toddler would make when painting feet she got to be the star of the project! :) Cute huh? Did I mention that she has HUGE feet? :)
