On Mondays I am going to have tips on what has worked for me with my many kids. I have received emails about my daily schedule and so I am going to go in order every Monday. Please comment with anything that you do or don't do or if this has helped you so we all can benefit from everyone's experiences.
-AFTER BREAKFAST-
V - We clean up and head to the bedrooms to get dressed. 8-9 usually lounge time.
They have a checklist if you want ours I will email it to you.
Its laminated and on the bathroom cabinet so its ready for checking everyday.
This is when they are responsible for 1/2 of their chores and getting themselves ready for the day.
I feel like it is important for them to take pride in themselves and accomplishing daily goals such as chores and hygienic tasks such as brushing their teeth.
We have done this for a while now and it works because everyone is in charge of their own list.
For instance, my stubborn 3 year old decided she wasn't going to brush her hair or have it done one day and she was complaining all day that her hair was in her face. I referred back to our morning checklist and how it was her choice not to do it and she has never skipped a task since. We do allowance with the older ones and I will hit that on another monday.
Let me know what you think? Is this something you would use in your house?
Is there something you would add?
Hi, I was just wondering if your kids ever get the dry erase markers on themselves/or the house. I like the idea of having my 2 1/2 year old practice writing/or do a chore check list but I don't think I trust him with a marker on his own. Any advice?
ReplyDeleteGood Question! I have them check it off and then make them put the marker in the cup. That way they aren't running through the house with markers!
ReplyDeleteHope that helps!
Let's see that checklist! Sounds like a great way to begin instilling responsibility. mekwolfe@yahoo.com Thanks.
ReplyDeleteCan you email me your checklist, too? My kids could use some structure in the morning... I love how they're responsible for themselves - I try to stress that, but they both fight me on it. I think if it was written down like you have it, they'd feel more in control yet I'd get the satisfaction of knowing my daughter won't be going to school looking like a homeless child. :)
ReplyDeleteCould you also email me that checklist? I love the idea!

Hi! I love the check lists! My son actually has ADHD and he really needs something to give him structure in the mornings and night time. We actually have a "visual schedule" that we use where I've taken a clip board and pasted velcro on it and cut out little clipart pictures (laminated)of the jobs he has to do. I set it up each morning and night and when he does that particular job, he gets to take the job off. Sometimes we make it into a game with adding a timer if he needs a little more motivation getting his jobs done in a timely manner. It works pretty well. Just another suggestion!
